MISSION BAY SHUTTLE A COMMUNITY ASSET

2020 marks the 10th anniversary of the Mission Bay Shuttle,  a much-appreciated and fundamental community asset.  The shuttle, which links Mission Bay offices, retailers and residents with the Powell BART, Embarcadero BART, the Transbay Terminal and Caltrain rail station, normally has more than 30,000 boardings a month.

The shuttle grew from two  buses on one route in its first year of operation to 12 buses on 4 routes.   The service operates in peak commute times and also provides service to adjacent properties outside its prescribed geographic boundaries, making employee transportation more efficient.

It can be credited as a key contributor towards Mission Bay truly becoming a “transit-first community.”  Annual surveys consistently show this new employment and residential hub to have among the lowest ‘drive alone’ rates in the City.
